Specialist Plant Operator (Level 2)
The course is aimed at those already having practical experience of Plant Operating, working in the trade and wishing to become qualified. You will find this qualification is suitable for you if you operate one of the wide variety of lift trucks in common use. You must have completed basic operator training in accordance with the approved code of practice issued by the Health and Safety Commission before you start assessment for this NVQ.
To achieve the full NVQ, you must achieve the four mandatory units. Two additional units are also available to test your broader skills as an operator.
Like all NVQs this qualification is competence based. This means that it is linked to your ability to competently perform a range of tasks in your work place. You will first plan a programme of development and assessment with your NVQ assessor and then demonstrate on a number of occasions that you are competent and knowledgeable in the work role.
To achieve a full NVQ, you must complete the four mandatory units (1 - 4). Additional units (5 & 6) are available but are not required for the full NVQ.
To achieve this NVQ, you must achieve the 3 Mandatory Units plus 1 Option

- Unit VR 02 – Conform to Efficient Working Practices
- Unit VR 386 - Prepare Plant or Machinery for Operational Performance

- Unit VR 387 - Operate Plant or Machinery to Lift and Transfer Loads
- Unit VR 388 - Operate Plant or Machinery to Extract
- Unit VR 389 - Operate Plant or Machinery to Excavate
- Unit VR 390 - Operate Plant or Machinery to Construct and Form
- Unit VR 391 - Operate Plant or Machinery to Receive/Transport Loads
- Unit VR 392 - Operate Plant or Machinery for Accessing
- Unit VR 393 - Operate Plant or Machinery to Lay and Distribute
- Unit VR 394 - Operate Plant or Machinery to Compact
- Unit VR 395 - Operate Plant or Machinery to Process
