IT Users Apprenticeship
The ITQ Apprenticeship is offered at a Level 2 ITQ Diploma and
combines on and off-the-job training, allowing you to work and at the
same time learn new skills that will lead to nationally recognised qualifications. The ITQ is a flexible IT qualification, which provides apprentices with essential computer skills for the workplace. The qualification is unit based and is suitable for those working in occupations such as Computer Operator, Administration, Computer Service Technician and Internet/Web Developer.
• The person needs to have been resident in the UK and Islands for three years.
• The person must not be in full time education.
• The person must be aged 16 years or older on the 31st August in the funding year in which their apprenticeship starts.
• The person can only start their apprenticeship after the last Friday in June in the funding year in which they became 16 years of age.
• Employment must be 16 hours or more.
• Anyone who has obtained a higher education qualification at Level 4 or above as defined on the NQF or QCF, including being awarded a first degree by a recognised university or other recognised higher education (HE) institution, is ineligible for Apprenticeship funding, except those who have participated in the New Deal.
Induction
Prior to the start of the training, pre-entry requirements are carried out
to check eligibility for funding.
The New ITQ Apprenticeship Qualification
• It is a nationally recognised qualification by any employer, anywhere in the country for all abilities.
• Apprentices do not have to sit exams; they will produce portfolio
based assessments.
• It recognises the skills and knowledge already acquired through other qualifications (such as CLAIT, ECDL,) and builds on previous experience and learning.
• Functional Skills: Level 1 Maths and Level 1 English
Content and Delivery
• The qualification is delivered flexibly over 32 weeks through online learning, tutor support and assessment/observation in the workplace.
• Within this time an apprentice will evidence Employment Rights and Responsibilities.
• The units are credit-based so apprentices need to undertake sufficient units from the list on page two to build up the 38 credits. There is one mandatory unit that addresses improving productivity in using ICT.
• In agreement with the employer an apprentice should select units that are appropriate to their work role.
• Training is given where skills gaps are identified. Our tutor could
typically deliver 3 – 6 workshops in-house.
• Apprentices will normally be expected to set aside approximately 2 hours a week for self-study time.
Level of Support
• Apprentices work with their Assessor and Line Manager to ensure that work based tasks and assessment deliver business improvement.
• An apprentice will undertake an initial assessment in ICT to help plan a training programme.
• Apprentices are required to complete English and Maths training up to Level 1, where a need is identified.
• A workplace mentor will need to be identified to support training.
• Review meetings with apprentice, employer and tutor.
