Often a great deal of stress, anxiety and inefficiency in the work place is related to a breakdown in communication. This can be between the management and the work force, between colleagues, or between service users and service providers. This is not usually because people cannot speak the same language or listen to each other, but often relates to different agendas and an environment that does not facilitate effective communication. This course aims to identify how communication breaks down in the participant’s work place and to facilitate a plan of action to improve communication, based on this breakdown analysis

This is an introductory course which will target all levels of workers including employees, middle managers, supervisors and line managers. It is expected that the groups will be mixed with representation from all levels. Anyone in these groups who has identified a breakdown in work related communication and wants to invigorate their work place through better communication practice would benefit from this course.

After the course: 

This course aims to identify how communication breaks down in the participant’s work place and to facilitate a plan of action to improve communication, based on this breakdown analysis.
The objectives of this course are to:
• Enable better understanding of the communication process in your workplace
• Know how and why communication breaks down
• Use this deeper understanding as a structure for analysing communication situations
• Understand the relationship between poor communication, stress, ineffective use of time and poor job satisfaction
• Establish what you can do to improve the communication situation in your work place.

At the end of this course participants will have:
• An increased understanding of what is involved in the communication process
• A joint assessment of the communication situation in their work place.
• A personal plan of action to improve the communication situation at work
