Health and Social Care Apprenticeship L3
• Anyone working in health or social care supporting individuals with physical and emotional care and who works without direct supervision or is in a supervisory role.
• The person needs to have been resident in the UK and Islands for three years.
• The person must not be in full time education.
• The person must be aged 16 years or older on the 31st August in the funding year in which their apprenticeship starts.
• The person can only start their apprenticeship after the last Friday in June in the funding year in which they became 16 years of age.
• Employment must be 16 hours or more.
• Anyone who has obtained a higher education qualification at Level 4 or above as defined on the NQF or QCF, including being awarded a first degree by a recognised university or other recognised higher education (HE) institution, is ineligible for Apprenticeship funding, except those who have participated in the New Deal.
The Health and Social Care Apprenticeship is offered at a Level 3 and combines on and off-the-job training, allowing you to work and at the
same time learn new skills that will lead to nationally recognised qualification. The apprenticeship delivers improved practical care skills and underpinning knowledge around core skills which will increase staff confidence in working with Adults.
Induction
Prior to the start of the training, pre-entry requirements are carried out
to check eligible for funding.
The Apprenticeship Qualification
• It is a nationally recognised qualification
• Certificate in Health and Social Care
• NVQ in Health and Social Care
• Functional Skills: Level 2 Maths and Level 2 English
Level 2 Certificate
This technical certificate is designed to support learners with the knowledge aspects of working in Health and Social Care. A portfolio of work is completed to gain the qualification whilst delivery is via workshops or 1 to 1 support depending on the learner’s location and circumstances.
Content and Delivery
• Learners must undertake 4 mandatory units and 4 from the optional units in this specification.
• In agreement with the employer an apprentice should select units that are appropriate to their work role.
• Training is given where skills gaps are identified. Our tutor could
typically deliver 3 – 6 workshops in-house.
• Apprentices will normally be expected to set aside approximately 2 hours a week for self-study time.
Mandatory units

• HSC31 Promote effective communication for and about individuals. This unit focuses on identifying different ways to communicate with individuals around sensitive issues and updating and maintaining records and reports.
• HSC32 Promote, monitor and maintain health, safety and security in the working environment. This unit looks at how you keep yourself, individuals and others for whom you are responsible, safe and secure within your work environment.
• HSC33 Reflect on and develop your practice. This unit requires you to reflect on, evaluate and take action to develop your own knowledge and practice.
• HSC25 Promote choice, well-being and the protection of all individuals. This unit focuses on your abilities to protect individuals whilst embracing equality and diversity.

• HSC328 Contribute to care planning and review. This unit looks at how you contribute to the assessment of individual’s needs and preferences and to the development, implementation and review of care plans.
• HSC330 Support individuals to access and use services and facilities. This unit focuses on how you support individuals to access and use services and facilities.
• HSC335 Contribute to the protection of individuals from harm and abuse. This unit focuses on your ability to recognise and report on factors that may cause danger, harm and abuse and contribute to managing the risks.
• HSC343 Support individuals to live at home. This unit focuses on supporting individuals to live at home by identifying risks, support services and additional resources.
• HSC360 Move and position individuals. This unit looks at how you support individuals to move from one position to another according to their needs and care plan.
• HSC369 support individuals with specific communication needs. This unit focuses on how you support people with specific communication needs.
• HSC375 Administer medication to individuals. This unit looks at how you prepare for, administer and monitor the effects of medication on individuals.
• HSC384 Prepare and support individuals to move and settle into new living environments. This unit focuses on supporting individuals to move and settle into new living environments.
Functional Skills
Learners will also complete the functional skills at level 2 for maths and level 2 for English through embedded and workshop learning.
Level of Support
• Apprentices work with their Assessor and Line Manager to ensure that work based tasks and assessment deliver business improvement.
• An apprentice will undertake an initial assessment to help plan a training programme.
• Apprentices are required to complete English and Maths training up to Level 2 where a need is identified.
• A workplace mentor will need to be identified to support training.
