Driving Goods Vehicle (Levels 2 & 3)

Summary:

The NVQ Level 2 is for LGV drivers who wish to show that they can operate a vehicle safely and work within legislation. It is designed with the needs of the goods vehicle industry in mind. It allows drivers to be assessed by observing their competence in pre-driving checks (including the useage of tachographs and also the monitoring of loading goods). They will be observed driving the cab and should help them to produce evidence for their portfolio by working with their employer. This also encourages them to develop safe driving skills and outlines good practice in unloading goods vehicles, coupling and uncoupling vehicles.

Full Description:

The programme consists of seven mandatory units:

  • Unit 4: Monitoring the loading of the vehicle by others
  • Unit 6: Completing pre-driving preparations
  • Unit 7: Maintaining the safety and security of the load, self and property
  • Unit 8: Maintaining awareness of driving conditions
  • Unit 9: Operating the vehicle systems
  • Unit 10: Driving the vehicle on public roads
  • Unit 11: Driving the vehicle in restricted spaces

The NVQ Level 3 is designed to provide those who already work as Goods Vehicle drivers (or those working towards their licence) with evidence of their driving ability. This allows them to demonstrate competence in:

  • Broad areas, enabling you to be considered as professional goods vehicle drivers.
  • Driving goods vehicles safely and efficiently, as expected of an experienced driver.
  • Obtaining information about the collection and delivery of vehicles and planning routes.
  • Loading, coupling and uncoupling vehicles.
