Basic Excel & Business Modelling
There aren’t that many people that use Excel who haven’t taught themselves either at work or at home. Even those who consider themselves a good user are probably still only using a fraction of the software’s capability. This course is specifically designed to start from scratch on the basics of navigation, formatting and formulas. No prior knowledge is assumed, and any that you do have will probably be expanded by the end of the first session. Following on from the Basic Excel session, Business Modelling starts to explore the usefulness of using Excel to record, report and forecast Business Performance. The functionality of using graphs, data management functions, and using Excel in conjunction with Word & PowerPoint form the basis of this session.

Module Content Session 1 Navigating around Excel Changing the formatting Creating formulas Session 2 Data Management Drawing Graphs Using Excel in conjunction with other Office Packages Key Learning Points The training has been designed so that each individual has the chance to learn how to use Excel from scratch. You will be learning within Excel itself throughout the training so gaining a great opportunity to be hands on. As the training progresses each participant will have the chance to start using more functionality. Focusing on data management and presenting the data in suitable formats by the end of the training you should be able to draw a number of graphs, and format them in such a way as to really get your message across. The module also explores the best way to use these Excel alongside other Office packages such as PowerPoint and Word. You can expect to be If you haven’t used Excel before, this is a great opportunity to have a go in a safe environment. If you have used Excel before, but feel a little rusty this is your chance to learn some of the functionality in a step by step process. If you have used Excel a lot before, then this is your chance to brush up. Each participant will be given the opportunity to learn hands on for themselves. For those more experienced there are a series of exercises to challenge your knowledge and add to your skills. Preparing for the session If you have used Excel before and have experienced some problems or challenges producing the desired result, bring along some examples to share with the group. The session has been structure to cover the basics that most users can expect to use day-to-day, but there is always something new to learn on such a useful tool.

After the course you can expect to have a much better understanding of the functionality in Excel and almost certain be able to be much more sophisicated in what you do at work. Excel is a very powerful business tool and excellent for analysing and communicating information to others
