Safety in the use of abrasive wheels

Many employees regularly make use of abrasive wheels for example, grinding and cutting, sharpening of blades and chisels.

Many people working with abrasives have undergone training which was based on the requirements of the now revoked Abrasive Wheels regulations 1970.

This is no longer sufficient and training based on the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 is required.

This course follows the recommendations of British Abrasives Federation and leading abrasives manufacturers and suppliers.

Course duration: (1/2 day)

Course objectives: To train delegates in the safe use, inspection and fitting of Abrasive wheels

Course target delegates: Persons responsible for ordering, fitting and using
Abrasive wheels in their daily duties.

Delegates will gain an understanding of:-

Regulations and Requirements.
Hazards and dangers of Abrasive wheels.
Definition of Abrasive wheels.
Types of Abrasives and bond types.
Abrasive Specifications.
Speeds of Abrasive wheels.
Receipt, Handling and Storage of Abrasive wheels.
Inspection, examination and testing.
Inspection of portable and bench grinders.
Provision of guards and work rests.
Correct methods for removal and mounting of abrasive wheels
Personal Protective Equipment.

Delegates will complete a multi choice test paper and practical assessment to demonstrate their understanding.
